Rabbi Kramer’s life was defined by Shlichus—a mission of service to the Jewish people, both spiritually and materially. Born into a life of Shlichus, he dedicated nearly 50 years to this sacred mission, and his legacy lives on through his children, all of whom serve as Shluchim around the world.
He was born on 3 Tammuz, 5713 (June 16, 1953), in Montreal, Canada, to Rabbi Leibel and Chaya Kramer. His father, a Holocaust survivor, was among the nine Shluchim dispatched by The Frierdiker Rebbe to establish the Chabad community and institutions in Montreal.
As a young boy, Rabbi Kramer studied at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch of Montreal, and later continued his studies at the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. In 5732 (1972), despite his plans to remain near The Rebbe, he was selected as one of the talmidim-shluchim sent to strengthen Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in Melbourne, Australia. He undertook this mission alongside fellow Shluchim Rabbi Aharon Eliezer Ceitlin, Rabbi Yosef Chitrik, and Rabbi Yaakov Reitzes, dedicating himself to spreading Yiddishkeit and deepening the city’s connection to the Rebbe. He returned to New York in 5735 (1975).
In 5736 (1976), he married Mrs. Ita Friedman, and that same year the Rebbe appointed them as his Shluchim to Eretz Yisroel. The couple settled in Teveria, where they established a vibrant Chabad presence and brought additional Shluchim to strengthen the city’s Jewish life.
Since the establishment of the daily Rambam study cycle, Rabbi Kramer faithfully organized the Siyum HaRambam at the Rambam’s gravesite in Teveria, in accordance with the Rebbe’s directives.
