We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Blumenfeld, OBM, a longtime devoted Shliach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Who passed away last night, 5 Nissan, 5783.
He was 68 years old.
Rabbi Blumenfeld was born on Shlichus, and as per the Rebbe’s horaa he continued took over his father as Chief Rabbi of Rio de Janeiro, which he served for over 40 years.
The Rebbe told him: “….to stay in Rabbinate of Rio, even if it is extremely difficult, until the last drop of your blood…”.
He passed away sudddenly.
He is survived by his wife Ida, siblings: Mrs. Chana Scharf – Crown Heights and R’ Yossi Blumenfeld – Crown Heights, and many nephews and nieces who serve as Shluchim and Mashpim around the world.
He was predeceased by his brother Rabbi Schneur Zalman Blumenfeld OBM, senior Shliach of Peru, and his parents Rabbi Yerachmiel and Dvora Blumenfeld OBM.
The Levaya and Kevura will take place today, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rabbi Blumenfeld’s wife will be sitting Shiva in Rio de Janeiro.
His siblings will be sitting Shiva in their own homes. R’ Yossi Blumenfeld is sitting shiva for his brother at 1751 Union st apt 1B
