We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Shmuel Osher Begun, a dedicated Shliach in São Paulo, Brazil, who dedicated himself to the Chinuch of Jewish youth with care and passion. He passed away on Shabbos, Yud Beis Tishrei, 5786.

    He was 65 years old.

For decades, Rabbi Begun served the Jewish community of São Paulo, Brazil, serving as the principal of the local Lubavitch Cheder.

Together with his wife, he opened their home in the Morumbi neighborhood to countless guests and has inspired many families through his warmth, charisma, and artistic soul.

He was also the author of an encyclopedic volume detailing the timeline of events throughout the Torah and Tanach, which helps students connect historical context with their learning.

After Rabbi Begun was diagnosed with a serious illness, his friends and students came out to support him and his family—in gratitude for the decades of devotion he had shown them.

He is survived by his wife, Raya (nee Levenhartz), and children: Mrs. Feigy Lapidus — Argentina; Mrs. Chani Feldman — Crown Heights; Simcha Begun — Crown Heights, Mendy Begun — Crown Heights; Dovi Begun — Miami, FL, and Mrs. Etty Labkowsky — Los Angeles, CA.

He is also survived by his father, Rabbi Tzvi Arieh (Hersh Leib) Begun — Sao Paulo, Brazil. And siblings: Mrs. Raizel Leah Naparstek — Brazil; Mendel Begun — Brazil, Mrs. Chana Ende — Brazil; Mrs. Shternie Lew — Peachtree City, GA, and Moti Begun — Brazil.

He was predeceased by his mother Mrs. Rivka Begun (nee Herson).

The Levaya will take place on Sunday, passing by 770 at approximately 12:00 pm, with Kevurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 1:00 pm.

The shiva will take place in Crown Heights at 501 Montgomery St., side door.  Sunday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Monday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

    Baruch Dayan Haemes
