We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Shimmy Hershkovitz, OBM, a young father and devoted Shliach in Ofakim, Eretz Yisroel. He passed away on Tuesday, 26 Elul, 5783.
He was 27.
Born on 9 Kislev, 5756, to his parents Rabbi Yisroel and Sarah Hershkowitz, he was named after his grandfather Rabbi Shimon Hershkovitz. As a Bochur, he learned in Ohr Yehuda and Tzfas Yeshivos. He then joined the Kevutzah of 5775.
Shimmy served as Shliach in Ofakim, Eretz Yisroel, where he established a new Chabad House, established a day camp “Chayolei Hemelech” for hundreds of kids, opened a branch of Tzivos Hashem, among other projects.
Several months ago, Shimmy became ill with an aggressive form of cancer. Over the last few weeks, his condition continued to decline.
He is survived by his wife Chana (nee Nisselevitch) and their young child.
He is also survived by his parents Rabbi Yisroel and Sarah Hershkowitz and siblings.
The Levaya will take place in Ofakim, tonight at 10 PM.
