With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Rabbi Mordechai (Mottel) Chein, OB”M, a longtime prominent member of the Crown Heights community. He passed away tonight, Tuesday night, Zayin Nissan. He was 81-years-old.
He has reportedly passed away after contracting the Coronavirus.
Reb Mottel’s father, was the well-known Mashpia, Reb Dovber Chein, OB”M.
He founded the Crown Heights printer, Empire Press, together with a friend, and printed many of the Rebbe’s Seforim.
As a Mashpia, and active prominent member of the Crown Heights community, he was on the board of many Lubavitch organizations. Over a decade ago, he served as Gabbai in 770 for a period of time.
Rabbi Chein devoted his entire life to giving the Rebbe MH”M Nachas, and fulfilling all of the Rebbe’s instructions. He was known as someone who had a strong Kuch in Moshiach. He also had a big Kuch in Mivtzah Mezuzah around New York, and even in his later years, he went on Mivtzah Tefillin every week. In his spare moments, he could be found learning Seforim.
He is survived by his wife, Brocha, and children, R’ Yossi Chein – Crown Heights; Mrs. Raizel Shemtov – Toledo, OH; R’ Pinny Chein – Argentina; Mrs. Chana Eidelman – Vienna, Austria; R’ Mendel Chein – Crown Heights; R’ Peretz Chein – Cheadle, England; R’ Moshe Chein – Toulouse, France; R’ Shloime Chein – S. Cruz, CA; R’ Zalman Chein – Binghamton, NY; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
