We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Mendy Raitport, a longtime Crown Heights resident and Askan, who for many years owned the Crown Kosher butcher shop. He passed away in a terrible car accident on Tuesday night, 25 Nissan, 5785.
He was 57 years old.
Mendy, a devoted husband and father of eight children, was a familiar face in Crown Heights. He owned and operated his popular Crown Kosher butcher shop on Kingston Avenue for many years.
Recently, he served as a menaker in shechita operations for the CHK and other hechsherim.
He also ran for public office a number of times, and was known for his passion for improving the community.
Tragically, while returning from Florida, he was killed in a car accident in Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, and eight children.
He is also survived by his parents, Rabbi Yitzchok and Shaindel Raitport of Boro Park, and siblings.
He was predeceased by his brother Sholom Dovber Raitport.
The Levaya will take place tomorrow; more details will follow.
