We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Rabbi Meir Harlig, OBM, a longtime mashbak and gabbai in 770 and Vaad Hamesader. He passed away Sunday 29 Sivan.
He was 86.
Rabbi Harlig was known for being responsible for the Rebbe’s Arba Minnim, and giving it to Chassidim to make a Bracha on them.
He was also responsible for the meals that took place on Yom Tov when the Rebbe ate the Yom Tov meals in the Friediker Rebbe’s apartment in 770.
Rabbi Harlig related: “Until 5731 the Rebbe ate the Yom Tov meals in the Rebbe Rayatz’s sukka on the second floor. For many years I joined these meals and I remember that each time the Rebbe entered the sukka through the yechidus room, he tarried for a few long moments in that room. He would look around the room, his gaze lingering on the place where the Rebbe lay after his passing.
“Since the porch was very small, ten men and the waiter fit in the sukka with difficulty. Despite the crowding, a place was set for the Rebbe Rayatz. At the head of the table, on the left, is where the Rebbe Rayatz’s chair was, and silverware and dishes were set there. The Rebbe would sit at the edge of the table, to the left of the Rebbe Rayatz. The Rebbetzins would eat in the living room in the apartment of the Rebbe Rayatz.”
Following Rosh Chodesh Kislev, he arranged the annual Farbrengen in 770 on the Yom Tov.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Tzipporah, and children Rabbi Shea Harlig – Las Vegas, NV; Rabbi Yossi Harlig – Kendell, FL; Mrs. Chaya Sarah Dalfin – Miami, FL; Rabbi Sholom Harlig – Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and Rabbi Mendy Harlig – Henderson, NV; Mrs. Toby Baron – Sunny Isles, FL and Mrs. Binie Holtzberg – Monterrey, CA.
The Levaya will take tomorrow.
