    Australian Jewry and the worldwide Chabad community mourns the passing of a community veteran, Mashpia and director of “Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch” at the age 87.

    He passed away a short few hours after Shabbos, early Sunday morning.

    Reb Ahrel, as he was affectionately known to all, was born to his parents R’ Zalman and Brocha Serebryanski (nee Futerfas) in Charkov, Ukraine.

    His family was sent by the Previous Rebbe to Australia in the 1940’s. They first settled in the countryside village of Shepparton where other Chabad families were resided, only later moving to Melbourne.

    He was instrumental in the building of many Mikvaos and served as the director of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch in Australia.

    He is survived by his wife Zlata, and children, Mendel Serebyranski – Albany, Hendel Serebyranski – Melbourne, Yossi Serebyranski – Denver, CO, Rochel Leah Lipskar – Melbourne, Zev Serebyranski – Crown Heights and Levi Serebyranski – Detroit.

    His brother Rabbi Chaim passed away a few years ago.
    The Levaya will take place on Sunday in Melbourne.
