    With great sadness we inform you of the passing of R’ Nathan Werdiger, OB”M, a Holocaust survivor, philanthropist, businessman and respected community leader of Melbourne, Australia. He passed away on Sunday, 15 Teves, 5776. He was 93 years old.

    He was born in Poland, when he was 16 he and his family were rounded up and taken to Aushwitz, where he and his brother Nechemia were the only survivors of the horrible “selection” process.

    After the war he made his way to Australia where he established himself as a successful businessman and later one of Melbourne’s largest landowners.

    Werdiger, helped many Jewish causes in Eretz Yisroel, Australia and around the world, was one of several Holocaust survivors in Melbourne who have supported and helped to build up the local Jewish community.

    He is survived by his wife Nechama and children Debbie Nossbaum, Michelle Feiglin, Miriam Goldschmiedt, David Werdiger and Shlomo Werdiger, all of Melbourne, Australia.

    The Levaya will be held at the Melbourne Chevra Kadisha in Springvale at midday on Monday, 16 Teves.
