We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of R’ Leibel New, a founding and longtime member of the Anash community in Melbourne, Australia. He passed away on Wednesday morning, 8 Tishrei 5785.
He was 91.
Born in 5694 (1934) to his parents, Reb Yisroel and Rivkah New, Leibel was the first Australian-born Tomim to learn in Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia.
Leibel and his wife, Chana, were among the early pioneers who established the Anash community in Melbourne.
He is survived by his children: R’ Avremi New – Crown Heights; R’ Chezky New – Melbourne; R’ Sholom New – Crown Heights; R’ Yitzchok New – Melbourne and Mrs. Rivka Raskin – Melbourne.
He is also survived by his brother, R’ Mendel New.
The Levaya will take place on Thursday at the Lyndhurst Cemetery in Melbourne.
