With great sadness we regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Rochel Altein, OB”M, a matriarch of a large Lubavitch family, and one of the first Shluchos. She passed away on Monday, the 19th of Nissan. She was 95-years-old.
Mrs. Altein was the daughter of Mrs. Sheina and Rabbi Yisroel Jacobson, the Chairman of Agudas Chassidei Chabad in America and a leading Chabad Rov
She got married in 5704 to Rabbi Mordechai Dov Altein, OB”M, who passed away just a few months ago, at the age of 100-years-old.
The Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach and Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka attended their Vort. The Altein couple also had the great Zchus that the Rebbe was the Mesader Kidushin at their wedding.
Together with her husband, after their wedding they embarked on a life of Shlichus, including to Pittsburgh, New Haven and the Bronx.
She is survived by her children Mrs. Chanie Gurarie – Montreal, Canada; Rabbi Avrohom Altein – Winnipeg, Canada; Rabbi Yaakov Leib Altein – Crown Heights; Mrs. Sara Pinson – Nice, France; Mrs. Malka Cohen – Manchester, England; and Mrs. Sima Zalmanov – Tzfas, ER”Y; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, KA”H, many of whom are Shluchim of the Rebbe around the world.
