With great sadness we report the passing of Mrs. Gita Gansburg OBM, wife of the late R’ Yitzchak (Itchke) Gansburg OBM.
Born in Russia in the year 1927 to her father, the renowned Chossid R’ Refoel Nachman Kahan OBM, she grew up in a household where Mesirus Nefesh for Judaism was a given, with her father arrested before her eyes when she was a young girl, five years of age.
In the early 1950’s she married the renowned Chossid R’ Yitzchak (Itchke) Gansburg OBM, and together they spent the next 25 years building the Reshet Oholei Yosef Yitzchak – Lubavitch school system in Israel, moving every few years from city to city, establishing a Jewish school in the hardest of circumstances, and once it was successful, giving it over to a younger family, and moving on to the next city or village. This was done during daytime hours, while nights and weekends were dedicated to Chabad activities under the Lubavitch Youth Organization of Israel.
In 1976, the Rebbe approved their relocation to Crown Heights, where she served dutifully as the dorm mother of Machon Chana, caring for the spiritual and physical needs of the girls who were making their first steps into a life of Judaism.
She was predeceased by her husband, who passed away in 2006.
She is survived by her brother R’ Yoel Kahan, Mashpia of the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch – 770; and her children: Rabbi Yosef Gansburg (Toronto), Mrs. Nechama Chanin (Crown Heights) and Mrs. Fraydee Brod (Kfar Chabad).
The Levaya will take place tomorrow (Friday), leaving 10:00am from Shomrei Hadas Chapels, and passing by 770 at 10:45am.
