We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Mrs. Devorah Sima “Debby” Einbinder, mother of Rabbi Mayer Stambler of Dnipro, Ukraine. She passed away on Motzei Shabbos, 4 Shevat, 5784, in Eretz Yisroel.

She was 74.

Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, as the third child of Reb Eliyahu Tzvi and Jean Einbinder, who had a close relationship with both the Frierdiker Rebbe and the Rebbe, Debby was among the first students of New Haven’s Bais Chana Academy under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe and Rivka Hecht.

Following her wedding, Debby moved to Crown Heights where her son, Mayer Stambler, was born. In later years, they moved to Israel where Debby developed a deep love for, and connection to, Eretz Yisroel, seeking to visit every site of spiritual and historical significance throughout the land.

Known and admired for her extraordinary refinement of character, kindness of spirit and sincerity of faith, Debby was openhearted and generous toward family members and strangers alike. She would always be seen with a Tehillim in hand, praying for those facing illness or difficulties.

She had a very close relationship with her three siblings and all of their children. Her greatest source of pride and joy was her illustrious son, Rabbi Mayer Stambler, his wife, Sara, and their children and grandchildren.

Working from Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, Rabbi Stambler is one of the prominent Shluchim in the region, working alongside Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky in overseeing and securing the spiritual, physical and social needs of the Jewish communities of Ukraine. As Chairman of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine, Rabbi Stambler played a pivotal role in the evacuation and relocation of tens of thousands of Jews to safety at the start of the Russian invasion in 2022. He continues to attend to the needs of those in the line of fire in the war-torn region.

Rabbi Stambler would be the first to credit his innate passion for helping those in distress to the traits he inherited from his mother, and the example of goodness and kindness she set for him throughout his life.

Debby Einbinder is survived by her son, Rabbi Mayer Stambler – Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine; and siblings, Faygie Lipsker – Crown Heights; Libby Weiss – Israel; Rabbi Mordechai Einbinder – Tarzana, California; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was interred in Har Menuchos on Sunday.

Rabbi Mayer Stambler and Libby Weiss will be sitting shiva in Kfar Chabad, Israel, at 10 Rechov Toras Chaim, Kfar Chabad, Israel. Visitation and davening times are as follows:

Shacharis: 8:45 am, Mincha: 15 minutes before Shkiah, Maariv: Bzmano.

Faygie Lipsker will be sitting shiva at 1275 Union Street – Apartment A1, Crown Heights.
Visitation times: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm; and 5:00-8:00 pm.

Rabbi Mordechai Einbinder will be sitting shiva at 18100 Califa Street – Tarzana, California.
Visitation times: 4:00-9:00 pm with Mincha-Maariv at 5:00 pm.
