We are deeply saddened to report on the passing of Atara Cohen, a nine-year-old girl from the Chabad community in Toronto, Canada, who was tragically killed after being struck by a delivery vehicle outside her home on Wednesday afternoon.
Atara was the daughter of Shimon and Henya Cohen of Toronto
The collision happened on Mullen Drive, in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Bathurst Street, shortly after 5:30 p.m. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene.
York Regional Police said the victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are investigating after one person was struck by a vehicle in Thornhill.
Premier Doug Ford posted a message on social media, conveying his condolences to the victim’s family.
“As a parent, there are no words to express my sadness and condolences for the family and friends of the 10-year-old girl tragically struck and killed in Vaughan tonight. You are all in my prayers,” Ford wrote.
She is survived by her parents R’ Shimon and Henya Cohen, and siblings.
The levaya will take place on Thursday, 3:00 PM at Chabad Gate. 3:30 Pardes Chaim, Nachlas Chabad section.
Shiva will be observed at 299 Mullen Drive, Unit 73, until Friday.
