Nearly a century after the Frierdiker Rebbe, established Tiferes Bachurim to provide Torah study opportunities for young men unable to attend yeshiva full-time, the initiative is being revived in Moscow with the launch of Tiferes Hatmimim.
The new program is designed for Jewish men and young adults who wish to deepen their Torah learning and strengthen their connection to Yiddishkeit, but whose personal circumstances do not allow them to enter a traditional full-time yeshiva framework.
While Moscow’s established Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva Gedolah in Sofrino serves those able to dedicate themselves to full-time learning, Tiferes Hatmimim opens the doors of yeshiva to those who work, study, or have embraced Yiddishkeit later in life and now seek a structured path in Torah.
The program follows a traditional yeshiva curriculum, with in-depth study of Chumash, Gemara, Halacha and Chassidus. Beyond the classes themselves, its goal is to equip participants with the skills and habits needed to learn independently and develop a lasting connection to Torah. For younger students, it can also serve as preparation for future study at Tomchei Tmimim.
Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Berl Lazar, who founded Moscow’s network of yeshivos and educational institutions, participated in the program’s opening day. He spoke about the historic significance of the initiative, which echoes the Frierdiker Rebbe’s efforts nearly a century ago to make Torah and Chassidus accessible to young men who could not study in yeshiva full-time.
The project is made possible through the support of the 770 Fund in Russia, headed by philanthropist Rabbi Yehuda Davidov. The program is led by Rabbi Yechezkel Lazar and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Slonimsky, with Maggidei Shiurim from Moscow’s Yeshiva Gedolah.
Since its launch, Tiferes Hatmimim has generated significant interest, offering another opportunity to expand Torah study and strengthen Jewish life throughout Russia.
