Man Arrested Over Threat Targeting Chabad and U.S. Defense Secretary
A Georgia man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his family unless Hegseth personally attacked a Chabad Shul and killed Jews C”V. The disturbing threat was posted online and has led to both federal and state charges • Full Story
According to a federal criminal complaint filed in the Northern District of Georgia, Jonathan Mark Susor allegedly posted the threat on X on July 28, demanding that Hegseth “clear out a Chabad Shul with the service rifle” while threatening that his family would be killed if he did not comply.
The same account had allegedly posted additional threats against Hegseth and his family, including photographs of the Defense Secretary and his children. Investigators say Susor acknowledged during questioning that he had posted the threatening message.
Susor was arrested by the Alpharetta Police Department last week, the same day the federal complaint was filed. He faces a federal charge of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce, along with state charges including terroristic threats, stalking and harassing communications. He remains held on $10,000 bond.
The investigation involved an FBI task force in Atlanta focused on targeted violence involving government officials, critical infrastructure and religious groups. The Secure Community Network also identified the threatening posts and alerted Jewish community security officials and law enforcement. Following an assessment by security officials and law enforcement, authorities determined that there was no credible ongoing threat to the Jewish community connected to the case.
The case is particularly disturbing for the Chabad community, as the alleged threat specifically targeted a Chabad Shul.
Chabad Houses and shuls across the United States continue to serve as vibrant centers of Jewish life, welcoming Jews of all backgrounds and providing Torah, Tefillah, Mitzvos and community support.
