R’ Yanky Berman, a Crown Heights community activist, has been receiving death threats after becoming the target of an online incitement campaign by the progressive podcast The Young Turks.
The threats came after Berman publicly called on New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani to tone down his rhetoric toward Jewish organizations, following criticism over his remarks about pro-Israel groups and his refusal to condemn the slogan “Globalize the Intifada,” a phrase widely understood as a call to violence against Jews.
The New York Police Department has opened an investigation into the threats. Berman said he will not be intimidated and remains committed to advocating for the safety and security of the Jewish community.
