Chabad Brings Purim Joy to the Jews of Rudny Kazakhstan

Despite heavy snowfall, the Chabad shliach and Chief Rabbi of Kostanay, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zalmanov, traveled to the city of Rudny to help local Jews celebrate the Mitzvos of Purim.
Community members gathered to hear the Megillah, put on Tefillin, and take part in the four Mitzvos of the Yom Tov. Participants received Mishloach Manos, MatanoS La’evyonim, and enjoyed a festive Purim seudah with traditional foods.
During the Seuda, Rabbi Zalmanov spoke about the message of Purim and the joy of Jewish unity. Participants also listened to a special audio message from his grandfather, Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, Chief Rabbi of Moldova and Chișinău and founder of Chabad-Lubavitch of Moldova, who shared inspiring words about the holiday.
Rabbi Zalmanov also shared stories about Rabbi Abelsky’s childhood in Moscow during the Soviet era, when Jews celebrated Purim and listened to the Megillah in secret despite great danger.
Special home visits were arranged for elderly and homebound Jews who could not attend the gathering. They received Megillah readings, Mishloach Manot packages, and the joy of Purim brought directly to their homes.
Children in the community also received special Purim packages with sweets and activity sheets, helping spread the spirit of the holiday throughout the city.
