MK Meir Porush submitted a proposed amendment to the Compulsory Education Law to the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, aiming to provide free, supervised education for all toddlers in Israel starting at three months of age. The bill is scheduled for discussion at the committee on Sunday, ahead of plenary deliberations in the Knesset next week.

The initiative seeks to ensure that every child in Israel, regardless of family income or background, has access to proper, high-quality early childhood education. Under the proposed amendment, the State would assume full responsibility for funding, operating, and supervising early childhood education frameworks for children from three months to three years old. All programs would be required to meet strict pedagogical, safety, and hygiene standards under the oversight of the Ministry of Education and other relevant government bodies.

MK Porush emphasized the urgency of the bill in light of the recent tragedy in Jerusalem, saying, “We are all shocked by this heavy and tragic event. It compels us to act immediately. Every child, at every age, from every sector, deserves proper education, regardless of their parents’ financial situation.”

The proposed legislation aims to establish uniform, regulated standards for early childhood care, addressing the current reality in which many private programs for infants and toddlers operate without official supervision.
