The lawyer, a well-known member of Dnipro’s Jewish community — described by the Rebbe as the “capital of Jewish life in Ukraine” — had stepped out for a business meeting when the missile struck his building, completely destroying his office.
In the midst of the wreckage, searchers were astonished to find his pair of Tefillin intact.
Speaking with Chabad Shliach Rabbi Levi Engelsman, the attorney attributed his miraculous survival to his prayers at the Kever of The Alter Rebbe in Haditch, where he had traveled before Rosh Hashanah. “I prayed that I should be protected from the terrible war,” he said with emotion. “Now I know that my prayer was answered.”
