Instead of leading the prayers and the festive meals, Rabbi Chezky Lifshitz, Chabad Shliach to Nepal, spent the holiday of Rosh Hashana behind bars, in the local prison, after an immigration clerk made a mistake on his visa.
Hundreds of Israeli backpackers in Nepal spent the holiday in the Chabad House, taking turns filling in for the Rabbi, and praying for his safe return.
Late on Friday, on the second day of Rosh Hashana, the Shliach was released, after the American and Israeli embassies stepped in to solve the problem.
