Women Celebrate Mussi’s 3rd Birthday
By Times Herald-Record
The Chabad of Monticello Jewish Women’s Circle recently hosted a party at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue celebrating the third birthday of Mussi Zajac, daughter of Rabbi Simcha and Chany Zajac.
The celebration bore great significance because it is a tradition in many Jewish families that girls start lighting the Sabbath candles from the time they turn 3.
The party began with a video showing how Mussi and her family prepare for Shabbos (the Sabbath) by completing certain household tasks before they light the candles, signifying the beginning of Shabbos. Mussi then lit one candle with the assistance of her mother and recited the appropriate prayer.
This was followed by the women and children who were present in shaping and braiding challah dough to take home to bake for their families. Each guest also took home a Shabbos prayer pamphlet as well as a package of candles. The event was a fun night out for all.
