It took a full extra month and five extensions, but Governor Kathy Hochul and legislative leaders have finally come to an agreement on a 2023-24 budget. The $229 billion document includes many items that were the focus of Agudath Israel’s advocacy efforts and are beneficial to yeshivas and their families. These provisions include security funding, free meals for school children, an expansion of a child tax credit, and the saving of a program that currently provides close to $92 million to Jewish schools • Full Story

Albany Supreme Court Strikes Down Part of New State Education Department Regulations

The Albany Supreme Court ruled Thursday afternoon that important parts of the recently enacted substantial equivalency regulations exceeded the State Education Department’s authority. NYS Board of Regents Schedules Monday Vote on Private School Regulation

A pivotal vote will be held in New York State this Monday that will heavily affect how much oversight the government will have over Yeshivos. The vote, held by the New York State Board of Regents will decide if the government can reject a private school’s secular studies curriculum. New York Bans Smoking in Public Parks, Playgrounds and Beaches
