Israel’s interim Defense Minister Naftali Bennett granted permission Sunday to make the Meoras Hamachpela in Chevron, accessible to the disabled.
Bennett instructed the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Gen. Kamil Abu Rukon, to take all necessary action, including expropriating land close to the site to advance the project.
Currently, the only access to the structure involves walking numerous steps and wheelchair-bound visitors are either restricted from going or need to be carried. The elevator will benefit all pilgrims to the site.
