A Jewish-Israeli expat living in Kenya was on a flight to Israel with a connection in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During his layover he did not feel well and was transported to a local hospital, where his situation deteriorated quickly, leading to his untimely passing,  r”l.

Rabbi Eliyahu Habib, Shliach of the Rebbe MH”M to Addis Ababa, who also serves as the local representative of ZAKA, the worldwide organization which tends to the ritual needs of those who have passed, facilitated the Jew’s burial in the local Jewish cemetery.

Rabbi Habib mentioned that ZAKA came to the rescue, as the family could not transport the body back to Israel for various reasons. The organization quickly provided him with burial shrouds and COVID protective equipment to ensure a safe and galactic burial.

“The team at the Israeli Embassy helped us out tremendously, taking care of the bureaucratic process related to burying this person here,” said Rabbi Habib, “we were able to transport the niftar to the cemetery and gather 10 local Jews to give this Jew a proper, galactic burial.”
