The legendary Jewish singer Yaakov Shwekey will be broadcasting live to Australian Jewish communities who are still under lockdown.

The lockdown which has been in place for over three consecutive months has left shuls locked up and schools closed, keeping families and all community members home celebrating alone during the recent high holidays.

The community has been holding strong while celebrating Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur without a minyan and separated from family and friends. In conversation with Rabbi Chaim Levy of Sydney’s Shul, the world renowned singer Yaakov Shwekey asked about the Australian Jewish community and how they are managing during the multiple lockdowns. He was saddened to hear first hand of the situation, the loneliness, fear and helplessness that so many are experiencing. With great emotion Shwekey recounted the friends he lost at the beginning of the outbreak, and how painful it is to know that fellow Jews still find themselves in this situation albeit on the other side of the globe. Shwekey who’s known for more than just his beautiful voice but his chesed and Ahavat Yisrael, describes how the power of music goes beyond barriers of time and space, and is able to uplift people even in the hardest of circumstances, he felt compelled to strengthen the community and bring a festive spirit during what is meant to be a time of joy and happiness for Jews the world over. Shwekey took this on as his own and reached out to his good friend and internationally acclaimed speaker Mr. Charlie Harary to be part of this project and give over words of encouragement to uplift the community.

This coming Sunday 6pm Australian time, Yaakov Shwekey together with Charlie Harary and a special kids magic show will broadcast live to members across the community in Australia. “The broadcast is an exciting project and a heartwarming display of the unity and love in am Yisroel, there is no doubt that this will shine a light of hope and positivity during these times” says Rabbi Chaim Levy. The event can be accessed from all over the world through registering for free here and also have a chance to win a brand new Apple Watch.

The event will be dedicated in loving memory our Barel Shmueli who fell defending Eretz Yisroel. With prayers to celebrate Simchat Torah with true joy reunited with our loved ones in Jerusalem with Moshiach.
