Avi Mogilevsky, who had sat in an Uber following the bris of a close friend’s son in Los Angeles, ended striking up a conversation with the driver.
After speaking with him for a few minutes, the driver informed Avi that he had recently found out he is Jewish. He explained that he, now in his mid thirties, grew up in Ukraine in a completely assimilated family. His mother was brought up in a state orphanage in the Soviet Union.
Avi inquired if the driver has a bris. The drive responded that he had thought about it, but due to financial issues, he could not afford it.
On the spot, Avi committed to covering the cost of the bris, which was performed successfully yesterday.
