Over 150 people came out for the historic event, a surprisingly large number for the small community. The attendees appreciated the opportunity to display their Jewish pride by partaking in this experience.
The event was honored with the attendance of the mayor of Springfield, Jim Langfelder, who spoke of his Jewish background and was honored with lighting the Shamash. Other dignitaries participated in the event, including; the County Clerk, County Auditor, Ward 5 Alderman, Director of Community Relations and a representative of the Department of Justice.
The state capital’s Jewish community enjoyed a buffet of fresh donuts, Latkes and hot drinks.
Rabbi Turen also addressed the crowd on the significance of the holiday of Chanukah, stressing the imminence of Moshiach’s coming and encouraged everyone to add in something additional.
