According to the application submitted to the town Planning and Zoning Commission, filed by attorney Thomas Heagney, “The tent would be used for outdoor services in Saturdays and for Hebrew school on Sundays. It’s anticipated that approximately 25 people would attend the Saturday services and 15 to 20 children would use the tent as part of Hebrew school on Sunday.” The goal is to limit indoor activities, Heagney wrote.

The tent would go up at the rear of the property at 6 Lincoln Ave. Parking would be handled by another Chabad site at 75 Mason St.

Chabad has been seeking to move out of its central Greenwich facilities and relocate to a school property on Lake Avenue, the former Carmel Academy. Chabad was interested in purchasing the site, where it has been a tenant, to create a new school there. That plan has been complicated by ownership issues and the potential sale of the site to another buyer, and it has been put on hold at the Planning and Zoning Commission amid continuing negotiations.
