The Vizhnitzer Rebbe is in town for a visit, and is being hosted in the Eastern Parkway home of philanthropist R’ Shalom Ber Drizin.
A delegation representing the local community was on hand to greet the Vizhnitzer Rebbe upon his arrival in Crown Heights. The delegation was spearheaded by former Vaad Hakahol member R’ Shmuel Melamed, community activist R’ Eli Slavin, New Jersey Shliach R’ Shraga Crombie, and Hachnosas Orchim Director R’ Menachem Mendel Hendel.
The Vizhnitzer Rebbe currently resides in Bnei Brak, Israel, from where he leads thousands of his Chasidim, but he embarked on this trip to spend time with his many Chasidim in New York, who often find it too difficult and arduous to journey across the Atlantic.
Crown Heights leaders and activists were instrumental in enabling the visit. Rabbi Avraham Lider of Ahavas Chesed, and community activist R’ Eli Slavin were crucial in that regard, also arranging a Mikvah and other necessities.
The current Vizhnitzer Rebbe maintains close ties with Lubavitch, as did this father, going back many years.

Who appointed Mr. Slavin a representative of the community? Was there an election I didn’t hear about?
I am glad that community leaders gave this Tzadik the respect he deserves.
