Tuesday, Yud Aleph Nissan, saw the world’s first Yud Aleph Nissan 114 Mitzvah Tank Parade make its way through the busy streets of Melbourne, bringing the messages of Pesach and the Birthday of the Rebbe to the streets.

The Mitzvah Tank Parade has become a regular annual event in Melbourne, celebrating the birthday of the Rebbe, and is an opportune time to reach out to Jews all over Melbourne with Pesach necessities.

Prior to departure, students of Yeshiva College came out to see the parade off, and get their class photo taken in a Mitzva Tank. After ensuring that all was set to go, including an ample supply of Matzos and Mivtzoim paraphernalia, the Parade departed shortly after 11:00am, carrying a record amount of Bochurim and school children that had joined for the day’s Mivtzoim efforts.

With speakers broadcasting lively music and colorful posters advertising Pesach and Yud Aleph Nissan, the parade drew much positive attention from shoppers and pedestrians alike. Passing through the popular Carlisle, Chapel, Glenferrie and Glenhuntly roads, hundreds of people witnessed the brightly decorated tanks and the lively “Tankistim” on board.

Following an hour of parading, dancing and Matza distributing, the parade culminated at “770”, where the traditional group photo was taken.

From there, the Mitzvah Tanks were restocked, and dispatched to various populated Mivtzoim hotspots around Melbourne. Covering the St Kilda, Malvern, Bentleigh and Caulfield areas, hundreds of Matzos were distributed, and many men put on Tefillin.

The Mitzvah Tank Parade is a community-funded project, and would not have been possible without the generous support of the community, and the commitment of the many drivers that enabled the parade to be the huge success that it was.
