Every year for the past twelve years Rabbi Avraham Varnai’s Kita Dalet of Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew day school in Chicago build a creative giant menorah.
Some of the menorah’s they have made In the past couple of years include one made of over 2000 cans of food later donated to people in need (2013). A menorah made of toys later distributed to sick and lonely children (2010). During the war in Eretz Yisroel they designed a special menorah out of letters written to terror victim families. And finally last year the giant menorah was made of thousands smaller menorah’s later sent out to light up the houses in all of Illinois.
This year Rabbi Varnai’s grade four students have been busy for the past few months raising money for the largest ‘Share the Warmth’ menorah. The menorah was made out of thousands of warm winter cloths including hats, coats, gloves and scarves all collected by the students and their beloved rabbi and would later be given away to hundreds of people in need.
