Machon Chana Women’s Institute will hold a triple-header this coming Motzei Shabbos, open to all women and girls in the community.
The evening will be a Melave Malka in honor of Rebbetzin Chana on the occasion of her 51st Yahrtzeit. Rebbetzin Chana is the namesake of Machon Chana, the first women’s baales teshuva seminary in the world. The Rebbe acknowledged that he was “partial” to Machon Chana publicly at a sicha and even called the students his “daughters.” When Rabbi J.J. Hecht, OB”M, appointed by the Rebbe as the “Zevulun” of Machon Chana, asked the Rebbe on one of his visits to the Machon Chana dorm, “When is your mother here?” the Rebbe responded, “Since the girls are following in her footsteps, her presence is always here.”
The event will also be one of the first opportunities of the year (In addition to the N’Shei Chabad gathering on Shabbos) for women and girls in the community to come together in a “Hakhel” gathering as urged by the Rebbe.
As well, the evening will be celebrating Machon Chana’s new location, returning to its roots of the classes taking place at 823-825 Eastern Parkway.
The three-fold celebration, which gets underway at 9:00 p.m. will feature Mrs. Esther Sternberg, sharing personal stories about Rebbetzin Chana. The evening will be chaired by Mrs. Rochel Chana Riven, herself an alumna of Machon Chana who attended classes at the Eastern Parkway location. Rabbi Shloma Majeski, principal of Machon Chana will speak, as well as Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht, shaliach Chabad of Ulster County, on behalf of N.C.F.J.E. Miss Sara Gutman, from Rio de Janeiro, a current Machon Chana student, will share her journey with all those in attendance.
A tent is being set up in the backyard to accommodate all participants. But, for anyone unable to attend or those living out of town, the event will also be on-line or over the phone. Live stream: bit.ly/VovTishrei5776. Phone in: (712) 775-7031, meeting ID 453-290-672#
There will be a raffle for one dollar of the Rebbe and a second dollar of the Rebbe will be auctioned off to raise much needed funds for the school and dorm.
Suggested donation for the Melave Malka Hakhel is $10. Sponsors and hostesses for the evening are still being sought. You can partner with Machon Chana in honor of Vov Tishrei to help raise the Rebbe’s daughters, or for any other special occasion. Visit VovTishrei.com or MachonChanaYeshiva.com.
