Petach Tikva residents witnessed two sides of Yad L’Achim: the one that tenaciously fights missionaries, and the one that warmly reaches out to Jews to draw them closer to their origins.
The story unfolded recently, when Yad L’Achim’s emergency hotline received numerous calls complaining of J’s Witnesses knocking on residents’ doors and distributing pamphlets. In response, activists were dispatched to confront cult members and drive them out of the area.
At the same time, the hotline disseminated an urgent message stating that: “Missionaries from the J’s Witnesses cult are knocking on doors. We urge you to remain vigilant, not to welcome them in, and to avoid any contact with them.
“Parents are advised to talk to their children and avoid accepting printed material from unfamiliar sources.”
The missionary threat and Yad L’Achim’s effective response had an unexpected benefit. Residents felt a heightened sense of unity and a stronger sense of identification with the Jewish people. The organization’s activists visited the homes of these residents, offering support and engaging in conversation that bolstered their Jewish spirit.
Ahead of Sukkos, the activists distributed Arba’as Haminim, sparking excitement and renewing residents’ connection to Jewish tradition. The very place where attempts had been made to sow alienation were filled with holiday joy, unity and light.
During the chag, activists made a return visit, presenting families with aravos for Hoshana Rabba. Kol mevaser v’omer.
