Hundreds of children and their families gathered at Sydney’s iconic Luna Park for a joyful Sukkos celebration, enjoying a day of sunshine, thrilling rides and Jewish tradition against the spectacular backdrop of Sydney Harbour.
Organized by Chabad Youth NSW, with the support of 26 local community organizations, the annual Sukkos at Luna Park event brought together families from across Sydney’s Jewish community to celebrate Zman Simchaseinu.
A beautifully decorated Sukkah was set up near the foot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, with views of the Sydney Opera House, offering participants a unique setting to fulfill the mitzvos of Sukkos.
Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to make the brachos on the Lulav and Esrog, enjoy kosher food in the Sukkah, and experience the special atmosphere of the Yom Tov while spending time with family and friends.
With beautiful weather and hundreds of smiling faces throughout the park, the event reflected the joy and warmth of Sukkos.
Rabbi Elimelech Levy, Director of Chabad Youth NSW, said the event was about bringing Jewish families together and creating positive, meaningful experiences for children.
“Sukkos is known as the Festival of Joy, and what better way to celebrate than seeing hundreds of children enjoying themselves with their families and friends,” Rabbi Levy said.
“There’s something very special about seeing children having the time of their lives on the rides, while just a short walk away, families are making a bracha on the Lulav and Esrog or sitting together in a Sukkah overlooking our magnificent Sydney Harbour.
“It’s a wonderful reminder that Jewish life and tradition are not only about what we learn and observe, but also about the joy, connection and wonderful memories we create together.”
A police presence helped ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, and the event proceeded smoothly, allowing families to relax and enjoy the festivities.
Rabbi Avremi Joseph, Program Director at Chabad Youth NSW, expressed his appreciation to Luna Park management and staff for their cooperation and support.
“We are very grateful to the team at Luna Park for facilitating this event and making special discounted group ride tickets available to our community. Their cooperation helps make this wonderful experience more accessible to Jewish families across Sydney.
“We also extend our sincere thanks to the 26 local organizations who supported the event, and to NSW Police for their presence and assistance.”
For Chabad Youth NSW, the celebration was another opportunity to strengthen Jewish identity, foster community connections and create positive experiences that children will remember for years to come.
“At the heart of everything we do is the belief that every Jewish child should feel connected, included and proud of their Jewish identity,” Rabbi Levy added.
“Seeing so many families celebrating together, with such genuine happiness, is exactly what Sukkos is all about.”
