Shots were fired outside of a synagogue in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, local daily The Tennessean reported. No one was hurt.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said a maintenance worker heard a loud noise at around 8:30 a.m. EST outside of the West End Synagogue on West End Avenue in Nashville.

Upon coming to the synagogue’s front entrance, the worker saw a bullet hole between two windows. After also noticing the bullet lodged inside the hole, he called the police.

According to Mark Freedman, the executive director for the Jewish Federation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, the Jewish community in the region is on high alert.

“Every synagogue and Jewish institution has been notified through our security team. Naturally we are always concerned when incidents especially like this one come up.”

Jewish institutions in the area are implementing heightened security measures, Freedman noted, adding that he is currently in contact with police over the incident and to ensure no other places are in danger.

Monday’s shooting comes as most Jewish leaders in the area are gathered in attendance for Tennessee’s annual Holocaust memorial ceremony at the State Capitol in Nashville.
