We regret to inform you of the passing of Mrs. Shternie Vogel, longtime resident of Postville, Iowa, who passed away on Shvi’i Shel Pesach following a protracted illness.
She was 55 years old.
Mrs. Vogel was born to Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov. After marrying Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, the couple moved to Bogotá, Colombia, where they served as shluchim for seven years.
They later moved to Postvill, Iowa, being amongst the founders of the local Jewish community.
Mrs. Vogel served as the secretary of the local Chabad school, as well as the town’s mikvah lady for many years.
She is survived by her parents Rabbi Sholom Ber and Leah Gurkov, her husband Rabbi Yisroel Noach Vogel, and their children Chaya Risa Simmons, Aizik Vogel and Mendel Vogel.
She is also survived by her siblings Rivky Stillerman – Crown Heights; Faigie Gurkov Hilel -Montreal; Malkie Junik – Crown Heights, Mendy Gurkov – Montreal; Levi Gurkov – Oceanside, NY; Nechama Dina Sirota – Nachalat Har Chabad, Eretz Yisroel; Meir Gurkov – Pomona, NY; Eliezer Gurkov – Pomona, NY; Chaya Gurkov – Montreal.
The levaya will take place on Sunday, passing 770 at 3:00 PM. Kvurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 4:00 PM.
