‘Light Up Mamilla” Chanuka program of directed by shliach Rabbi Eli and Chana canterman brought with it an extra need for security. The reason- the crowd went over the 1500 mark – where the maximum number of particpants permitted in one place on Mamilla avenue is 850..

” Tonight’s evening was dedicated to Kol Yaldei Yisrael, with special guests of honor and starring Pirchei Miami of Israel . Suddenly, we were surrounded by ‘ Mishteret Yisrael’ who ordered the evening to a halt as the crowd ran into the thousands. We thanked them for their care and concern and asked them to help us out ( instead of boycotting the event) citing that in the merit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Chanukia and the Jewish Maccabim of today, all will turn out well please G_D. And so B”H it was .

Under heavy security, the guests of honor began to light:

The Rimon family of cafe Rimon who donated towards the evening (and whose son turned 3 today as did shliach Eli Canterman’s little son Meir Zev) , lit a candle.

The next candle was lit by Sgt Eitan Fund whom Emcee Rabbi Yossi Eichenblatt described as a ” Modern day Maccabee ” who inspires the thousands of little potential Maccabees standing here tonight, to look out to assist another fellow Jew wherever he may be and put their well being as a priority. Eitan Fund raced into a tunnel in Gaza unarmed during Operation Protective Edge in order to try to locate and save his missing soldier friend Hadar Goldin H”Y’D and it was his findings that enabled his family to preform a levaya kahalacha.

Rabbi Yaakov Wilhelm and Rabbi Zev Dov Slonim – Rav of Jerusalem City Center delivered rousing Divrei Torah. Torah Psukim were recited by the huge crowds of children and the Israel Miami Boys’ choir led by Menachem Klein gave a performance that had children cheering all the way through the fabulous concert and beyond..
