The development of Judaism in the Crimea was impressively shown off during the inauguration of a new Sefer Torah, brought to the synagogue in the city of Simferopol. Upon the completion of the Sefer, it was ceremoniously escorted under a chuppah to the city’s synagogue.

Rabbi Yechezkel Lazar, the city’s Shliach, arrived in the Black Sea enclave with his family four years ago. Since then, he has initiated firsthand a strong renaissance for Judaism in the region, symbolized by the writing of this new Sefer Torah.

The lavish event was led by Russia’s Senior Shliach and Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar and attended by government representatives, representatives of the Crimean Jewish communities and a large audience.

The festive event was publicized in the local media, ultimately bringing a great Kiddush Hashem and the awakening of many Jewish souls throughout the area. The grand event was brought to a close with a seudas mitzvah and a chassidishe farbrengen, in which those gathered expressed their appreciation to Mr. Pinchas Salbondik, the owner of the largest kosher catering in Moscow and the donor of the city’s new Sefer Torah.
