The first rescue flight departed from Nigeria to Israel following the closure of Ben Gurion Airport. On the plane were four Israelis who contracted Corona during their work in the Nigerian city of Lagos.
From the moment the patients tested positive for COVID, the Chabad House of Nigeria sprang into action and accompanied the family until the moment an El Al plane took off from Nigerian soil with the Israelis. The Nigerian Aviation Authority asked Chabad emissary Rabbi Mendy Sternbach to board the plane and obtain the necessary documents and flight details. The rabbi even brought kosher food prepared by Rebbetzin Mazal Sternbach for the medical and flight crew.
The Chabad House in Nigeria has been operating for 8 years in the capital city of Abuja and in the last month of Kislev, another branch was opened in the business city of Lagos.
