The Answer to a Mother’s Prayer

A Yeshiva close to Crown Heights which has been a dream come true for hundreds of students and parents alike, is in danger of losing their building • Full Story, Photos

She slowly puts the phone down, feeling defeated and overwhelmed. Taking a deep breath, she looks up. “Hashem” she whispers, “please help me find the right yeshiva for my son.”

This was the third Yeshiva that she’s looked into. Her son is kind, sweet, a mensch and a hard worker. As a mother, she knows what kind of Yeshiva is best suited for her son. Although she lives in the heart of Crown Heights, she has not yet found the right one, but she is determined. She will keep looking, until she finds the perfect fit. There are just some things she refuses to compromise on: her son must be in a Yeshiva that is close to home, and the Yeshiva must be a place where he will genuinely feel at home.

Finally, after many months, a breakthrough. She has found the Yeshiva that will fit her son’s needs perfectly. It is close to Crown Heights, not too big, has a chassidishe, dedicated and loving faculty that provide individual attention to each and every student. Like a puzzle, all pieces are coming together. Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch Queens was the answer to her prayers.

It’s been almost two years, and it’s like a dream come true. She watches as her son flourishes under the guidance of devoted teachers, expert Mechanichim. Her son is surrounded by Bochurim who are just as inspired and excited about Torah, Yiddishkeit and Chassidishkiet as he is. When he comes home and shares his Yeshiva experiences with her, she has no doubts. Hashem has answered her tefillos. This is the Yeshiva where her son belongs.

Mid-way through her son’s second year in Queens, she finds out that the Yeshiva is facing eviction and is in danger of being shut down. Her heart sinks. This Yeshiva has truly become a home for him. How could this be taken away from her son when there is so much more for him to gain? Again, she turns to Hashem and whispers, “please make a miracle and turn this around. This is the place where my son is learning to be a true Chossid.”

Once again, Hashem hears the prayers of a Jewish mother and sends relief. The Yeshiva is suddenly offered the opportunity to buy the building instead of being evicted from it. In true Adar fashion, there is a complete transformation of the situation, a ‘ve’nehapochu!’

The road to buying the building is a difficult one. The Yeshiva must raise 10 million dollars! However, no obstacles are too large for a Jewish mother. She begins thinking of ways she can help. She definitely does not have the means to give much financially, nor does she know anyone who can, but she must do something.

It is tax season now and soon she will receive a large tax return. It was like a no brainer. Without hesitation, she decides to use that money and buy 3 “bricks” in the campaign for her son’s Yeshiva! But she couldn’t just stop there.

She then calls another mother to discuss the situation. The mother shares her sentiment. She tells her how she and her husband just readjusted their monthly budget to be able to give $200 a month, committing for 2 “bricks” in 50 installments. The more people she spoke to, the more she discovered more people just like her. Not wealthy, or close to it, but all have taken upon themselves the commitment of donating bricks, out of Hakaras Hatov for what yeshiva has done, doing, or will do for their son.

Baruch Hashem, Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch Queens, has many parents who are determined to ensure Yeshiva buys the building. Together, each one is doing their part, to reach their goal, making this dream a reality.

The campaign is now down to the wire. There are just a few days left to raise the necessary funds. The future of the Yeshiva is yet to be determined. Please partner with these incredible parents and save the building.
