Chabad of Springfield, Illinois, directed by Rabbi and Mrs. Mendy Turen, organized a public Menorah lighting at the local mall, once again in Springfield. Over 150 people came out for the special event, a surprisingly large number for the small community. The attendees appreciated the opportunity to display their Jewish pride by partaking in this experience.
The special honor of lighting the giant community menorah was given to someone who has been especially generous in offering their time and energy to the Springfield Community.
This year, a dear friend and pillar of the Chabad community, Yisroel-Steve Rambach, a real “mentch” who has devoted his professional life to the students of Lanphier High School for the past 52 consecutive years.
A special thank you to United States Congressman Rodney Davis, the Mayor of Springfield, Jim Langfelder, Senator Steve McClure, County Auditor Andy Goleman and the Mayor of Jerome, Michael Lopez, for honoring the Jewish community with your presence.
The state capital’s Jewish community enjoyed a buffet of fresh donuts, Latkes and hot drinks.
Rabbi Turen also addressed the crowd on the significance of the holiday of Chanukah, stressing the imminence of Moshiach’s coming and encouraged everyone to add in something additional.
The crowd was thrilled to hear a few words from the Shliach, Rabbi Eli Turen, who traveled all the way from Chicago for this special event.
