On Friday, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, known as ‘RAGBRAI’, which is a non-competitive bicycle ride organized by The Des Moines Register, cycled through Postville. Many cyclists from across the United States and numerous foreign countries came to join in this seven day annual bicycle ride. Roughly 12,000 cyclists congregated in the small town of about 2,000 people.

Of course, when thousands of bikers come through a small town, it generates lots of excitement. The small town of Postville was no different. ‘Welcome’ signs were decorated around town, booths were set up and the town came out to greet it’s visitors.

The Postville Lubavitch community sprung into action as well; offering Kosher food and setting up Mivtzoim stands around the small city. Many Jewish men had the opportunity to put on Tefillin, some for their first time and to have their Bar Mitzvah on the go. In addition, Neshek was distributed for the women to light Shabbos candles.

One of the riders had Yahrtzeit for his father and had the opportunity to say Kaddish for his father on a street corner in the middle of Iowa.
