A new home for Krasnoyarsk’s Jewish children, teenagers, students, and youngsters, that was recently established near the city’s vibrant JCC, was inaugurated during Passover in a special ceremony attended by dozens of community members of all ages and walks of life.

A new modern beautiful Jewish Youth Center has been established to host the community’s thriving activity and numerous informal educational initiatives. The youth center is housed in a building that served as the community’s synagogue until 2006, when the center of activity moved to a new JCC and synagogue nearby. Since then, the building has been used for an ever-changing variety of purposes.

The renovations were made possible thanks to the generosity of the businessman and philanthropist Mr. Yochanan Yan Yankovitz and the support of the FJC. The renovations took half a year, transforming the old premises into a welcoming and warm home for the community’s youth who have already fallen in love with their new center.

“Our devoted donor, Dear Mr. Yochanan Yankovitz,” says the city’s Rabbi Benjamin Wagner, “was himself a participant in the youth club activities as a youngster 20 years ago, and much of his connection and support of Judaism is related to the positive experiences he had back then. Therefore, the establishment of this new center in his hometown is very important and exciting for him; he truly knows how to appreciate this extremely important activity.”

The center will host a number of informal educational projects active across the FSU and supported by the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS, including the EnerJew Jewish Youth Movement, the JFuture and SmartJ Sunday and afternoon school frameworks, the YAHAD and STARS learning programs for students, and many more local and national initiatives.
