    “Large Change” Surprises Australia’s Community

Australia’s Jewish community is in for a “large change”, says letter. The unexpected revelation leaves parents wondering, as they prepare for the upcoming school year • Full Story, Letter

Just as Australia’s Jewish community is gearing up for the new school year, parents of children attending Kesser Torah College, the central Chabad educational institution in Sydney, and the largest in Australia, were in for a shocking revelation.

In a letter addressed to parents, the Board of Kesser Torah College informs that their longtime principal, Rabbi Dr. Noteh Glogauer, will be stepping down from his post, to be immediately replaced by Mr. Samuel Gurewicz, who will function as Acting Principal while the board conducts a search for “a new leader”.

The letter then goes on to thank the outgoing principal for his “tireless efforts over the last 8.5 years”, as well as for “numerous improvements” to the school.

Mr. Samuel Gurewicz, the former Principal of the Beth Rivkah College in Melbourne, has the “stability and vision” to “take our school system forward,” says the letter.

While the letter, signed by Board President Meri Moss, and Vice President Ilana Kaplan, acknowledges that the announcement represents a “large change”, they fail to address the reason for the change, or express any dissatisfaction with Rabbi Glogauer, the now former Principal. Instead, the glaring omission has left many in the community to speculation and wonder before the new year.

While members of the board and administration of Kesser Torah are personally Lubavitchers, the institution is not oficially affiliated with Lubavitch, nor is it under the auspices of any of the central Chabad organisations.
