Chabad of Springfield, Illinois, directed by Rabbi and Mrs. Mendy Turen, organized a historic event for the city of Springfield. For the first time the Capital of Illinois was lit up with a Grand Car Menorah Parade.

With twenty vehicles joining together for this remarkable event, the entire city was in excitement. Police led the parade, making sure the drive was smooth, without any extra stops at red lights or other vehicles disturbing.

The Parade went through the city, on many of the main run roads across Springfield. It also passed by many important parts of the city, such as the Illinois State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, and the Old State Capitol.

In an exciting twist, the Parade began in the large parking lot of the new Chabad House, that Chabad of Springfield obtained right before Chanukah. The culmination was on a property that was donated to Chabad of Springfield a year ago, where the cars parked and everyone participated in the lighting of the large Menorah.

A special thank you to the group of Bochurim, organized by Mendel Spielman, who spent many hours building the Menorahs for the Springfield Parade, and helped make the Parade run very smoothly.

Being that this was a very Covid friendly Chanukah event, the reactions from the participants were unbelievable, with everyone saying how this must become an annual tradition in Springfield.
