While on a visit to Israel, former Vice President Mike Pence spoke at an event where he made mention of the presence of two special guests, Rabbi Yonatan and Mrs. Elka Markovich, dedicated longtime Shluchim in Kyiv, Ukraine, who were forced to flee their place of Shlichus last week.
After mentioning how the couple reminds “us of how important it is to stand for freedom”, the VP called on them to stand as the crowd gave them a standing ovation.
The Markovich family is still working tirelessly to evacuate Jews from Ukraine, as well as provide real support to those who have remained.
