On each evening of Chanukah crowds gather around the central Menorah of Ecuador. This is the 12th consecutive year that these lights of faith illuminate Ecuador. Each night another Jew recites a blessing on this display of Jewish unity and joy that shouts to the world: “look here, I’m Jewish and proud!”
Also non-Jews assist in this endeavor, after which they are honored with lighting the Shamosh – the ‘helping’ candle.
Delicious doughnuts, song, and chassidic dance, coupled with warm words of Jewish inspiration accompany the momentous event, warming the heart and nourishing the soul, lasting until the next year, in its own little Chanukah miracle.
