Chabad of Moldova Welcomes Jewish Refugees from Ukraine

Chabad of Moldova has been hard at work welcoming more than a hundred Jewish refugees from Ukraine to Kishinev over the past few days. And it is preparing for an even larger influx in the days and weeks to come.  “With more people you have to be ready with more food,” said Rabbi Zushe Abelsky, who directs Chabad of Moldova.

And Chabad was up to the task. The Kishinev Shul, run by Chabad, welcomed more than one hundred refugees with open arms, warm meals, and beds to sleep on over the past few days.

Chabad of Moldova is also preparing for more refugees to cross the border to gain refuge in Kishinev.

Most of the Ukrainian refugees come from southern Ukraine, and were able to cross the border into Moldova with the help of Moldovan Jews.

Mr. Joel Lion, of the Israeli Council to Moldova, visited Kishinev and met with many of the refugees. He was amazed when he heard the refugees tell him about Chabad’s work to welcome them and provide them with shelter and food. Mr. Lion praised the work that Chabad is doing with the refugees in Moldova and expressed his deep appreciation.

As the situation continues to unfold, Chabad of Moldova is ready to welcome more and more Jewish refugees and will be sure to provide them with shelter, warm meals, and open arms.
