This week Rabbi Edery was invited to give a lecture on Judaism at a high school in Shizuoka. He was invited by Mr. Kazumasa Fujimori who was very interested in giving a hands on, close up learning experience to his students about Judaism. The interest and curiosity of the students was truly amazing. They were both fascinated and inspired, learned a lot and asked many questions. They came out of the learning experience new people.

One of the main goals of Rabbi Edery in establishing Chabad of Japan is education. Education based on good morals and timeless Torah values is the key to a better future for all of mankind. For Rabbi Edery it is not just a cliché or a nice idea, it is his life. He gives classes to educate and strengthen the identity and moral compass, both to Jewish and non-Jewish people.

The students were very interested in Jewish perspective on G-d’s punishment and reward, Jewish marriage, status in women in Torah, the meaning behind kosher food and the regulations (The Rabbi showed them his obenot!). He showed them a Megillah (scroll), mezuzah and a shofar. They were extremely intrigued and wanted more.

The Rabbi explained that now we are nearing the New Year for Trees, where man is likened to a Tree. The importance of these years where they build themselves to be good and upright people, their positive resolutions they take on themselves now have an impact on  their whole life, and the next generation as well, eternally. Just like a tree, if it grows well and strong in its youth it will be a strong, well rooted tree that will give wholesome fruits that will make new strong trees.

The principal himself and the other teachers came personally to deeply thank the Rabbi for his awakening and eye opening lecture, and requested him to come back to continue teaching at their high school as it has given a new G-dly perspective to the purpose in their lives.unnamed (2) unnamed
